Vintage iron and brass Fairbanks scale. The paint and stencils appear to be original. It appears to be very accurate. Very collectible. Approximate Measurements The scale has a 4 1/2" x 3 1/4" base and 4 1/2" tall. 3.4# Markings Fairbanks. Condition Very good condition with minor to moderate wear and staining, see pictures. This item is an original Champion Egg Scale manufactured by G. A. Carlstedt Mfg. in Edmond, Washington. It is a manual, counter balance scale, used to sort eggs by weight for grading and hatching. The scale features a brass arm and a counterweight mounted on a wooden base. Based on the structural label, eggs are classified into categories like “peewees”, “pullets”, or “standards” based on their weight in ounces per dozen. These tools were commonly used by poultry farmers to market their eggs more effectively. $1.50 in 1924.
