1926 $1 British Columbia, California Fractional Gold / PCGS Greene-520 / POP 1!
PCGS certified Gold Shield, yet they seemed to be confused on this one. They certify the date as ND, but it is clearly dated 1926. They also failed to attribute this rare gold coin to a Greene-520. The reverse die is the same as the Greene-500 dated 1924. You will notice in the last photo taken from Mike Locke's website, he doesn't even have one shown and notes "....not seen." So here it is, the elusive Greene-520 that Mike Locke refers to. This is the only one certified by PCGS, even though the graders couldn't make up their minds as to what it is, yet they still certified it. Most likely, the issue was that they had no experience or reference showing what one looked like. As far as being cleaned, we believe they got that one wrong, also, as we also don't agree.
