Antique Ganado Navajo Rug Blanket Weaving, Cir. 1920 - 1930, Ex. Cond. 68" x 42"

Antique 1920's Ganado Navajo rug from the Hubbell Trading Post. The rug measures 68' x 42" and is in close to perfect condition. There are no stains, rips, or moth damage. There are a couple of selvage threads that are loose but are barely noticeable. There are several lazy lines clearly visible. 100 year old Navajo rugs are very difficult to find in this superb condition.

Navajo Second Phase Chief Blanket in Indigo and Red

Second phase chief blankets developed out of the banded first phase wearing blanket in the mid nineteenth century, when weavers began setting rectangular blocks into the striped ground. The ground alternates narrow bands of dark brown and ivory with wider bands of indigo and brown worked in a speckled single weft alternation.

I don't have any details about this very old and finely woven piece. Overall it is remarkable in the fineness, detail and quality and variety of color. The overall effect of the colors is a slightly subdued natural hue.
