RARE 1955 BOOK HOPI HEARINGS - NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN AFFAIRS
Very rare government document. The 1955 Hopi Hearings were official recorded proceedings held from July 15 to July 30, 1955, by a special committee of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) at the Hopi Agency in Keams Canyon, Arizona. Commissioner of Indian Affairs Glenn L. Emmons appointed the committee to investigate deep-seated factionalism, land disputes, and traditionalist versus progressive governance conflicts within Hopi society. This book relays the proceedings. It is a massive 412 single-sided pages, bound together. The book is ex-library from the Arizona State Museum, and bears the ownership stamp of James E. Officer, who was Associate Commissioner of the Bureau of Indian Affairs beginning in 1961.
