Great condition. No makers marks that I have seen. It is hand made. It will be shipped folded up, as that is how it was originally stored. There is no major damage, but a couple of the seams where the bark was folded has come open[pictured].

The Batak was made from the rib of a large animal., most likely from cattle or water buffalo. The region where these calendars were used is between Sumatra and Celebes in Indonesia. One side of the artifact has art depicting four creatures.

Antique/Vtg Ceremonial Axe Weapon from Mt. Hagen Highlands of Papua New Guinea!
One Oceanic ceremonial weapon from PNG highlands circa 20th century. It consists of 3 pieces (the wood shaft needs pinned back together). The first is an ax with a wood shaft and a flat elongated head wrapped in finely woven rattan sheath with geometrical patterns (some minor loss in spots and the leather binding to secure axe blade is fragile). The overall length is 32.5”, shaft is 19”, blade is 11” (some chipping to edges) and the width is 9.5” at widest. Provenance: Ex Collection Emory University 1986.20.235 and 1986.20.11.
