1831 Antique Needlework Sampler Alice Middleton Framed Folk Art

Original antique needlework sampler completed by Alice Middleton and dated 1831. This charming sampler features the traditional Tree of Life, birds, deer, floral borders and a biblical verse from Genesis. It is a wonderful example of early 19th-century schoolgirl needlework. The sampler remains in its frame and is an attractive decorative and collectible piece of English folk art. Condition is consistent with its age of almost 200 years. There is age-related fading, discolouration and wear to the fabric, together with marks and wear to the frame. The reverse retains an old framer’s label.
