Hickory haft was naturally smoked and oil burnished for a smooth feel; no stain on this timber. Head has natural patina with a clean eye. excellent used condition plumb victory national pattern 1.75 lb. single bit axe head rehung on the original 16" hickory handle. head has been sharpened but retains a full bit with very little poll mushrooming and little to no pitting. handle has some light cuts/gouges but is structurally intact. these 1.75 lb. axe heads were plumbs "in between" size and were used in their large hatchets like the one here and their small 26" boys axes. made in Philadelphia Pennsylvania from 1943- as late as the very early 1950's. please see pictures for condition. thanks for looking.
