The 1956 Super 88 was also considered sportier than the lower horsepower 88 and more "boulevard cruising" oriented 98 models. In 1956, the front ends underwent moderate revisions with the introduction of the new split-style deeply concave chrome grilles which seem to have taken styling inspiration from the growing aviation industry with these new grilles have a jet-style air intake look.
