1960 Willys PEPSI COLA PROMOTIONAL 2WD GALA 1 OF 100
Welcome to Street Dreams as we celebrate our 27th year in the classic and muscle car business. Well, here's another charming bit of American car culture you won't see every day...or ever. These delightful runabouts evolved from the Jeep DJ-3A Dispatcher, the ubiquitous delivery vans used by the U.S. Postal Service. Louis Yocich, a salesman for Willys Export, had seen the Jeeps at Las Brisas resort in Acapulco, Mexico, which were pink with canvas halfcab tops. He figured that a similar Jeep might work at Henry Kaiser's 1,100 room Hawaiian Village Hotel, so the Gala (export) and Surrey (domestic market) were created in 1959. Pepsi then partnered with Kaiser-Willys for "about 100" surreys in Cerulean Blue with Pepsi-Cola Yellow upholstery. This charmer is one of those rarities.

Similar in most ways to the Willys MB, Willys CJ vehicles, including the Willys CJ2A, incorporated design alterations to include vacuum-powered windshield wipers, a tailgate and civilian lighting. Production on the Willys CJ2A started July 17, 1945, sharing production time with the MBs. The CJ2A had two distinct series, often referred to as Very Early Civilian (VEC) and Early Civilian (EC) CJ2As. The EC CJ2A is considered to have been in production from mid-1946 to mid-1947. Early CJ2As, using many Willys MB parts, featured a civilianized MB with larger Willys headlights and a side-mounted spare tire.

The chassis was also designed to be low to the ground and featured a wide track to improve stability. Ingels' friend Lou Borelli then mounted a surplus two stroke West Bend 2.5hp lawnmower engine manufactured by McCulloch on the chassis. Thus, the world's first go kart was born." K1speed.
