It belongs to the "Sable handling" collection printed by Engelmann. The work is of absolute rarity as no copy has been located in the Collective Catalog of Spanish Bibliographic Heritage (CCPBE). There is a known copy of another work printed by Engelmann on saber handling on horseback, not on foot. Measurements: 21 x 28 cm.

A disciple of the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts, he was linked to said institution throughout his career. In 1808 he entered the general competition organized by the Academy, but without success. His collaboration with the Royal Calcography stands out, participating in two of its great projects: in 1819 he recorded the Portrait of José Moñino for the collection Portraits of the Illustrious Spaniards; and in 1825 the complete collection of Costumes of Spain, composed of one hundred and thirteen plates. From 1844 he held the position of caretaker of the Royal Academy, until his death at the age of eighty-two. Valencian painter, he is the son of José Ribelles, also a painter, and Josefa María Felip, both natives of the Valencian capital. He entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Ca.

The story takes place during the Earl of Montrose's 1644-5 Highland campaign on behalf of King Charles I against the Covenanters who had sided with the English Parliament in the English Civil War. The main plot concerns a love triangle between Allan M'Aulay, his friend the Earl of Menteith, and Annot Lyle. The two novels were published together in 1819.
