French Cuirassier Heavy Cavalry Sword

Absolutely stunning example of a French heavy cavalry cuirassier sword. Shows signs of period correct sharpening towards the tip (pictured). Small amount of movement in the guard, but handle and blade are solid. Excellent patinination to the brass guard. Faint traces of date inscription on the back, but 200 years of existence have left it unintelligible. Poincons designate it as no earlier than May 1815, so who knows if it made it to Waterloo. This was a purchase from the UK, so it only adds to the potential in my eyes. The only questionable thing about this sword is the scabbard, maybe a later replacement; you decide. A very large curved bladed sword from Northern India often known as a Firangi or foreign sword largely on account of the use of the european style blades. The blade in this example is very likely European with a shallow back edge fuller on each side, probably German or Italian. the large basket hilt of of steel retaining original grip wrap. A good example and very decorative piece 17/18th century. Indian Firangi sword. Spine is 10mm at hilt and is thin at false edge to the tip. 51 1/2” overall. 41” blade. Firm in hilt. No scabbard. Related to Khanda, Tulwar, Talwar, and Firangi.
