Scarce Connecticut militia Governors Horse Guard sword belt with intact sword hangers and plate, leather is a little dry but supple showing signs of wear with some light crazing and loose stitching, overall good condition for display, the plate is in good condition with a nice mellow patina, has a repair or replacement tongue which doesn't allow the keeper to fully seat. This is the only example I have personally encountered in 10+ years.

Civil War Era New York Militia Belt Plate
NEW YORK MILITIA BELT PLATE Civil War-era cast nickel silver/bronze belt plate, 3 x 2 in., depicting the seal of the City of New York within a laurel wreath on a stippled background, indicating use by a New York militia unit. The reverse shows a ‘chill' (an indentation drilled into the surface to allow the scene on the recto to be sharply stamped) stamped “1” then close to it stamped ‘1743', with the numeral ‘85' stamped along the outer bar of the belt loop. The reverse is also fitted with a 1.25 in. wide retaining hook. Shows some wear to the extremities, with a dark patina overall, has a slight bend on one side, see pictures, otherwise in very good condition

He dug this US buckle along with three other plates near Marshall, Virginia. He also stated the camp was used by Col Mosby's partisans, but no way to prove that. The brass arrow belt hooks riveted to tongue and positioned behind letter "S".".

Original Civil War Union Belt Set - Repro Buckle Yes, the buckle turned out to be a reproduction :( But the belt, cap box and pistol cartridge box are all original and in good condition besides some cracking and crazing. Cap box has the most loss to finish, has maker mark of S. H. Young and inspector mark. Cartridge box also has a maker mark of Gaylord.
