The letter begins "Julians Creek VA August 8 1863" to his Mother- he writes that he is in good health, asks she not send him a box until she hears from him. He also asks if "Savber" (Sabrina?). has any such stories told about her -"if there is any truth in them I shall make short work with her", but Sayber doesnβt know how Lydia is carrying on.

For sale is one early Civil War Battlefield pick up Confederate Cavalry Sabre grip. At one time there was an old label with this piece stating it was picked up at Antietam Battlefield but unfortunately it has been lost. The piece is very unique due to still having the original wire wrap and remnants of the tarred canvas grip not to mention the solid intact wood. The wire and canvas are very reminiscent of the first model Kenansville Cavalry Sabres manufactured at the Confederate States Armory. A very rare and cool Civil War relic. See pictures for details. Has a really nice Ames Maker Mark on one side of the blade and the U.S./ 1859/ JH Inspector stamp on the reverse. Full length blade with a nice point. Leather wrap and wire are in great condition. Beautiful brass patina on the guard and pommel. Pommel has two inspector cartouche. Scabbard is complete and fits the sword perfect. Please see all photos for condition.
