161st New York Infantry Civil War Bible J. Horton Pulteney NY. Musician
This Bible was carried by Joseph R. Horton of the 161st New York Infantry during the Civil War. Out is in good condition, the leather latch is loose on one end. He was a musician. It was given to his sister in 1853, she passed away a few years later. He has signed the civil war with his regiment , probably was given the Bible that his older sister owned and signed it and carried it during the war. I show a copy of a photo of Joseph ( on the left tin photo). not included.

This is an Original certificate from the General Headquarters State of New York Adjutant Generals Office. It is dated October 9th, 1890 and states the record of Dennison S Ammeman and his dates of enlistment, May 22, 1861 and when he was honorably discharged on August 9, 1862. He was a musician in the band, 33rd regiment New York Volunteers. It is not often you find paperwork with the war of the rebellion referring to the civil war. Measures 10.5 by 8.5 inches. My understanding is that a bonds of this size are pretty rare. That is a lot of money in the 1860s. Issued November 28, 1864 in Richmond. My guess is that it was never paid off. . With raised notary seal.

General George H Thomas saved the Union Army at the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia after the battlefield was abandoned by his superior officers (for which where he earned the sobriquet "The Rock of Chickamauga") and in January, 1865 effectively destroyed Hood's Army at the Battle of Nashville.

Civil War Army of Cumberland Invitation Card & Note, 11th Reunion 1879
7 1/4" x 5" invitation on heavy stock to the 11th reunion in Washington Nov. 19 & 20, 1879 & for the unveiling of a statue of General Thomas. Note the executive committee were all vets-James A. Garfield, Thomas Young & A.McD. McCook. This invitation was to Gov. John Phelps of Missouri. He, too, was an ex Union soldier & had seen heavy combat at Pea Ridge. The invitations to all the governors were sent out & supposedly signed by a Brevet Major General. Supposedly this was R.S. Granger, but the signature on this letter does not match his. It is actually that of General A. McD. McCook Nice pair & scarce invitation card. Price includes insurance.

Filed for recording in Shelby County, OH May, 1881.
