This is a rare original Civil War era VMI Coatee uniform jacket, a valuable non-dug relic from the era of the American Civil War. The jacket bears historical significance as a piece of militaria from the time when the South was fighting for its independence. Coat is fully intact with 44 VMI coat size buttons with D.Evans backmarks judging from the buttons this should date from 1865 to the reconstruction era, it does have some loose stitching and some light fraying and very light stains but overall very good condition for age, these are exceeding hard to find especially in this condition.

post-Civil War Era 25th Reunion - 20th Maine Regiment - 1872 Kepi Cap - McLilley
The Cap has a bullion 25th in a Wreath with the gold braided chin strap. The interior still has the fabric lining and is marked McLilley & Co. The size is estimated as 6 7/8. The 20th Maine was most famous for it's defense of "Little Round Top" hill during the battle of Gettysburg.

Has a nice black felt collar. 4 brass scoville mfg. Co. Vermont buttons close the front. From the shoulder to the lower hem measures 36 inches. The bottom skirt measures 36 inches across. John R. Farrell was listed as a Tailor from 1853 - 1894. A very high quality officers cape that is in super condition with no moth damage.

Introduced in 1851. Union Civil War soldiers went to the front decorated with brass scales on their shoulders as part of their uniforms. Made of brass, the scales are attached to a pan, held together with a thin iron sheet, a brass strip soldered to the pan, and attached to the bottom with a thumb turn, would fit under a brass clip sewed onto the jacket.

RARE 1858 Pattern Chapeau Cockade Strap with Eagle & General Staff Button
Superb and uncommon cockade for an officer's chapeau. Beautiful eagle above a general staff officer's button. There may have likely been a banner above the eagle with E. Pluribus Unum (now gone) as shown in the last pic marking a hole in the strap with a blue arrow. There is some fraying to the bullion around the perimeter. Very hard to find. Measures 5 1/4 inches long. Please don't ask me to end the auction early with an offer. I don't do that and it's unfair to those bidders who wait until near the close of the auction to place their bids. Always happy to combine shipping on multiple wins!
