The letter begins "Julians Creek VA August 8 1863" to his Mother- he writes that he is in good health, asks she not send him a box until she hears from him. He also asks if "Savber" (Sabrina?). has any such stories told about her -"if there is any truth in them I shall make short work with her", but Sayber doesn’t know how Lydia is carrying on.

Camp DuBose was located near Secessionville, South Carolina. He also notes the Brigade is now commanded by Colonel Graham, as Hagood is on Furlough. The 21st South Carolina Infantry, organized at Georgetown, SC served in South Carolina and Virginia from 1861 to the end of the War, in General Hagood's Brigade, Hoke's Division with heavy losses in the 1864 Morris Island Campaign and at Petersburg Siege up to the end of the War.
