Grouping M1917 WWI Painted Helmet AEF 37th Engineers Matchbox safe match box
Up for sale is an original WWI M1917 AEF helmet issued to an AEF U.S. Army soldier with the 37th Engineers. Painted insignia on helmet. Also in this sale is a brass matchbox safe with a collar disc on each side. One is the "U.S. 37" and the other side is the Engineer Corps disc. This is a great grouping. You don't see much stuff come along for the 37th engineers. Heat stamp inside helmets ZA196 This collection is 100% legit original. It came from a lifetime collector who acquired many of his items directly from WWI veterans over decades, much of which back in the 1970's. Helmet condition is really quite nice. P1917 Marine Corps officer's company grade summer visor cap. Correct wicker construction with polished cotton lining. Crown is marked: JACOB REED'S SONS / PHILADELPHIA along with stamped owner's name: C.H. GRESHAM. Unmarked bronze P1912 officer's EGA Corps device to front that has brown overpaint done long ago. Sweatband is present with no noted restoration. Shows shattering to the crown lining and typical age and sweat staining from period use. Tan cover is mounted over a forest green cover.
