HMS Amethyst was the first warship larger than a destroyer fitted with steam turbine engines, and served at Heligoland Bight, the Dardanelles, Gallipoli, and on South Atlantic raider patrol before being sold for scrap in 1920. A good example of a George V period 1891 pattern Midshipman's Dirk. The hilt with attractive lionshead pommel, shagreed grip bound with brass wire, all complete. The crossguard with acorn finials, and crowned fouled anchor. The eighteen inch blade is Engraved for 16.25”. Leather scabbard retaining the sprung safety catch on the top mount, which is also complete with twin hanging rings. The leather body is solid, and the stitiching intact.
